The legal position, stated plainly before anything else
Readers regularly email to ask us to confirm that a site is "approved in the UAE". We cannot, and no honest publisher can. The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), established in September 2023, licenses commercial gaming in the UAE — the national lottery run by The Game LLC, the land-based Wynn Al Marjan Island property scheduled to open in September 2027, and online gaming under Internet Gaming and Sports Wagering licences, where a single operator has been authorised to date. That licensed online product is geolocation-restricted to people physically inside the UAE, bars VPN use and is limited to those aged 21 and over.

Betting outside the licensed framework remains a criminal offence under Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021 and the Crimes and Penalties Law.
